Light Sport Aircraft

Skyleader LSA / Microlight Models

The SKYLEADER Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) models featured on this website are all suited to New Zealand use.
Each of the two-seaters is designed and manufactured to comply with the new Light Sport Aircraft standards set by ASTM.

The SL 600, SL 400 and GP One are approved for a maximum take-off weight of 600 kg, while the SL 500 is currently approved to 580 kg MTOW.

The LSA category is restricted to 600kg maximum take-off weight, stall speed under 45 knots, maximum of two persons, etc. They can be used as GA aircraft or as Class 2 Microlights.
Commercial users favour registering their aircraft as Light Sport Aircraft, so they can be used for GA flight training and hour-building towards PPL and CPL. Private individuals and recreational aircraft clubs usually prefer to register them as Microlights.
In NZ, for microlights, there is no 120 knot maximum speed limit or restrictions on retractable landing gear, in-flight adjustable propellers and higher-power engines, so you can ignore some of the conservative data shown in the Skyleader brochures + webpages that are aimed at the European UL or United States LSA market.
