Yippee! - Our GP One has arrived

The southern hemisphere sun shines on a SKYLEADER GP One for the first time.

At 1.00pm today, a NZ Customs officer, the Shipping Agent, the MPI representative and I quietly gathered around a solitary yellow container in the huge Freight Haulage compound. We were present to witness the Freight Haulage staff member dealing to the security seal with bolt-cutters and opening the container doors. 

Yippee! It's here - the first SKYLEADER GP One light sport aircraft to come to the southern hemisphere. As the first-of-type in NZ, it will be our SkyFreedom Aviation demo aircraft. Hopefully this will be followed by many other GP One LSA/Microlights for Kiwi owners.

While the MPI representative did his bio-security checks, other employees 'just happened' to be passing by and hung around for a look. Plenty of jokes about how many blokes you could fit inside it. When someone found out how short a runway it needed, they quickly suggested that we pop the wings on and take off down the yard. They quite liked the fact that it had a 'whole plane' parachute, in case a catastrophe happened. 

I'll be back on Monday to unload the container and shift the GP One to a storage area for assembly and all its pre-inspection checks..
