GP One SOLD already

Wow! The GP One has sold already. It is going to a Kiwi guy who is shifting to a new property in Queensland. He wants a nice plane to make use of the farm's airstrip - there are 6 other aircraft currently hangared at his strip.

I will still have the GP One for another few months, so I can demonstrate it to NZ customers before I pack it into a container for export.

Now we have to choose between importing another GP One for NZ or another of Skyleader's proven models such as the SL-500 or SL-600.

Mandeville Military Commemoration

Mandeville airfield, famous for the Croydon Aircraft Company which restores and flies 1930's De Havilland vintage biplanes, held a commemoration of the WW2 Battle of Crete over the weekend.

Lots of interest in the GP One
The 20 knot (38kmph) sou-wester made for a wicked cross-wind on ladnign and take-off, but the old biplanes kept flying during the day. I had a few good conversations with people who were interested in purchasing an LSA like the GP One.

Picturecarbon fibre air intake louvres
To help make the side air intake more effective at scooping in air, I have removed the small-gauge white alloy mesh and fitted a series of carbon fibre louvres. It works a treat and looks great.

We have just listed our current Skyleader GP One demonstrator aircraft on TradeMe.
It is time to sell it and import another Skyleader model such as the low-wing SL500 to build Skyleader's presence in the aviation marketplace. I hope that the GP One will be sold to someone further north where it will be seen and flown by many more potential customers.

Hokitika Fly-in

PictureThe early arrivals parked up on Friday night
Just returned from the annual RAANZ National Fly-in at Hokitika on the South Island's West Coast.
I left Southland late on Friday afternoon and flew via the Nevis Valley and Haast Pass. It was partly cloudy up the West Coast, but I was able to stay high and get views of Mt Cook and the other impressive peaks of the Southern Alps. For the last 20 mins I had to descend to 800 ft below cloud to get into Hokitika. Flight time 3 hours.
During the 3 day event more than 60 microlight aircraft attended, including a tiny CriCri and an old amphibian. Lots of yarns, eating and drinking, plus some local flying. The weather was very hot and muggy, something that a Southland lad is not used to.
I flew back to Wanaka on Sunday evening to camp with my family, then cruised over the Old Man Range on Monday and tracked down the Waikaia valley back to the farm.
